Intent:

1. Garmisch Community Club (GCC) seeks to recognize students who make a positive contribution to our military community by virtue of their commitment to the ideals of academic achievement, personal excellence, leadership, community involvement, and public service.

2. GCC will award selected Garmisch seniors a scholarship to be applied toward the costs involved in seeking a degree at a regionally accredited college, university, or technical school for the year 2024-2025.

 

Eligibility:

1. The GCC Scholarship is open to all graduating high school seniors of the class of 2024 who have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the end of the seventh semester; have a U.S. Military I.D. card, a USAREUR privilege card issued to U.S. citizens and bona fide family members of U.S. personnel, or NATO I.D. card; and whose sponsor resides in or is assigned to a unit within the Garmisch Community.

2. Home-schooled seniors are eligible with a transcript from home-school sources.

3. The applicant’s sponsor must be a member or an associate member of the GCC.

4. The GCC Board of Governors will resolve disputes concerning eligibility.

5. NOTE: Students who graduated in 2023 and deferred college admissions must apply to the Continuing Education Military Child Scholarship.

 

Selection:

GCC will grant scholarships to the highest ranked applicants based on grade point average, special honors, awards and achievements, school and community activities, volunteer and paid work, essay, and recommendations. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, or national origin.

 

Packet Requirements: 

1. Completed GCC Scholarship Application online at GCC HS Scholarship.

   • Photocopy of applicant I.D. card (specified in “Eligibility” above).  Please copy both sides - .jpg or pdf file

   • Essay – pdf file

2. Official high school transcript(s) including fall semester 2023 grades.

   • Email to: gccscholarshipchair@gmail.com

   • Mail to: Scholarship Application Attn: GCC Scholarship Chair, CMR 409, Box 615, APO, AE, 09053

3. One (1) recommendation letter completed by someone other than a family member or another student – pdf or .doc file sent directly from recommender to gccscholarshipchair@gmail.com

4. The entire packet must be received by 5:00 pm, March 28, 2024.  NO LATE ENTRIES OR ADDITIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. 

 

Disbursement:

1. The GCC Scholarship Committee will notify each applicant of selection results in writing no later                than May 3, 2024.

2. Students must use the scholarship for basic educational expenses such as tuition, laboratory fees, dormitory fees, boarding expenses, books, equipment necessary for classes, and/or any miscellaneous fees required by the institution.  Students must complete an Acceptance Form no later than June 10, 2024 or the award will be considered unclaimed.

3. Any student who accepts an all-inclusive scholarship will forfeit the GCC scholarship.

4. GCC Scholarships, when combined with other scholarships, must not exceed the cost of tuition, fees, and books for the academic year. Any remaining funds must be returned to the GCC. 

5. If the student receives funds from the Post-911 G.I Bill, they must provide proof of continued financial need. If the student cannot provide proof of continued financial need, they must forfeit the GCC Scholarship.
